Why should I choose New Heritage Recruiters?

Customer Service. It is our pledge at New Heritage Recruiters that we will partner with you to understand what types of positions you are interested in, and will work to the best of our abilities to find an opportunity that meets and exceeds your expectations.

What is locum tenens?

The term locum tenens is Latin for “holding one’s place”. A locum tenens company—such as New Heritage Recruiters—recruits and places physicians on temporary assignments (short- and long-term) at medical facilities and practices. However, we also offer permanent placement opportunities as well.

How long is the typical locum tenens job?

Locum tenens positions can range from just a few shifts to a year or more in duration, depending on the needs of the locum doctor and the healthcare facility or practice. We have also experienced facilities that offer a permanent position to our locum physicians during or after their locum assignment.

If I choose to work with New Heritage Recruiters, what type of commitment do I have to give?

New Heritage Recruiters offers you the best opportunity for success in finding your ideal assignments, along with the best customer service in the industry. That being said, signing up to work with us does not limit you to working solely with our recruitment firm, nor does it hold you to a required length of commitment. Because our physicians are the top priority in our company, we want to provide positions that fit their schedule and work best with their availability. New Heritage Recruiters wants to help in locating the position that’s right for you, but until we have found a position that you are excited about, you have no obligation to pass up another opportunity from an outside source.

Does New Heritage Recruiters offer Permanent Placement opportunities?

Yes! We are always aware of permanent positions available within hospitals and clinics around the country. In addition, there are many times when locum tenens placements are used as a trial period before offering a salaried position to a provider. This ensures that both the provider and facility are a great fit before making a long-term commitment to each other.

Why would a facility need to use a locum tenens provider?

There are many reasons why facilities have a specific need for locum tenens coverage. In many cases, a facility will utilize a locum due to temporary vacancies during their search for permanent providers. These facilities will use locums to bridge the gap until they hire a permanent candidate or to supplement their own recruiting efforts. Other common scenarios include: maternity leave, vacation coverage and medical leave. Locum tenens is a necessity to maintain patient care any time a provider is absent.

As a locum tenens provider, am I employed by New Heritage Recruiters, the facility, or am I an independent contractor?

It is the standard in the locum tenens industry that providers be considered Independent Contractors. That means that you would not be an employee of New Heritage Recruiters or any facility at which you work on a locum tenens basis. As such, each provider is responsible for the payment of their own taxes.

Additionally, New Heritage Recruiters does not engage in the practice of medicine and does not control the manner in which the providers perform their medical services. Facility representatives may provide some policy and procedural information with regard to that specific facility, but neither New Heritage Recruiters nor the facility exercise control over how you, as a locums provider, practice medicine. The facility will be responsible for determining your schedule, hours worked, patients seen, etc., but each locum tenens provider is working as an independent contractor.

How are locum physicians compensated?

Opportunities identified through New Heritage Recruiters offer highly competitive pay based on location and medical specialty. Locum tenens doctors are paid as independent contractors on a net 15 basis at a rate agreed upon prior to accepting the locum job. Since locums are considered independent contractors, New Heritage Recruiters does not withhold taxes from paychecks. Working as an independent contractor may offer tax advantages, such as the ability to deduct certain expenses and healthcare insurance premiums. We cannot provide tax advice and encourage you to contact your tax advisor for more information regarding working as an independent contractor.

Are travel-related expenses covered?

Generally, yes. Travel-related expenses (such as airfare, lodging, and car rental) are typically covered, and all travel arrangements are coordinated between our experienced team and the specified facility.

Is medical malpractice insurance provided by New Heritage Recruiters?

Yes, we provide “A+” rated medical malpractice insurance for all of our locum tenens physicians, free of charge.
